"Everybody can be great...because everybody can serve.

You don't have to have a college degree to serve.

You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve...

You only need a heart full of grace.

A soul generated by love."

~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Community Service Requirement

This school year every Participation In Government / Economics student will complete a minimum of 5 hours of community service and also attend one public meeting. There are many opportunities in our school and community to volunteer and serve others. Some examples include, Pathfinder Village, peer mentoring and tutoring other students, helping out in gym class, the food fair, and the Red Cross Blood Mobile.

Active membership in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H, Interact Club, Fire Department, S.A.D.D. or any other service organization will also fulfill this requirement. You could also create and maintain a web site or Facebook page for a school or community club/organization/agency that serves others. Please use the Community Service Experience form linked below to document your activities and hours served...

You will also create a Wiki page ( 300pts ) that consists of a reflection statement (250 - 300 words) detailing your community service experience(s) and the public meeting you attended this year.

You should describe what you did, where you were, and how you were able to help and serve others. Also consider how participating in this activity or being a member of a service organization has impacted and effected you?

Explain why your activity/organization is so important to our community. Incorporate our concept words whenever possible and also consider what role DCP may have played in your experiences. One way to conclude your reflection statement is to "throw down a challenge" and encourage the reader to volunteer and serve in our community.

Please give this your best effort and remember to avoid slang and use appropriate wording and syntax. Your Wiki page will serve as both an example and resource for students next year who may not be aware of all the community service programs and activities in our community.

If there is a web page for your event or organization, an article about the event, or even a video/news report, you may want to create a link or embed the video in your reflection statement. If you have photographs of the event feel free to post them as well. If you authored a letter to the editor please upload that document to your Wiki and if it was published, please include a link to the Letters To The Editor section of the publication. You may even choose to upload the logo or symbol for your organization.

Still not sure how to get started? Check out the community service Wiki reports linked below for some inspiration and examples of volunteer opportunities...
